Frequently asked questions

What is a temperature blanket?

A blanket where each row (or square) is knitted or crocheted in a colour that stands for that day’s temperature – usually the daily high – over a whole year.

How many colours do I need?

Most temperature blankets use 10 to 14 colours. Fewer colours make a calmer blanket; more show finer changes. Check the lowest and highest temperatures your town had last year to set the range.

How much yarn does a temperature blanket take?

A lot: often 3,000 to 5,000 yards for 365 rows of a throw-sized blanket. Knit a swatch and use the swatch method in the yarn calculator, then split the total across colours based on how often each temperature occurs.

Are my colours saved?

Yes, in this browser only. Nothing is sent anywhere.
