Printing at the right size

  1. Press Print template and choose your printer.
  2. Set scale to 100% or Actual size (not “Fit to page”).
  3. Measure the test square in the corner: it must be exactly 1 inch (or 2 cm).

Frequently asked questions

How are hexagon sizes measured?

By the length of one side. A 1 inch hexagon has 1 inch sides, measures about 1.73 inches across the flats and 2 inches from point to point.

What seam allowance should I use for English paper piecing?

Most EPP quilters cut fabric ⅜ inch (about 1 cm) larger than the paper on every side. That leaves enough to fold over and baste or glue.

Why is my printed hexagon the wrong size?

The print dialog scaled the page. Set the scale to 100% or “Actual size” and check the test square on the sheet before cutting.
